DURF 2.0 is finally here!

Hi everyone!

The last four months I've been busy playing a lot of DURF and working on a major overhaul and streamlining of the rules.

A lot has changed so it's probably best if you just read through the PDF, but some of the changes include:

  • Some fun art! I had a lot of fun making some illustrations for it.
  • Luck is gone, it was not used nearly enough to justify its inclusion in the rules.
  • Three character stats instead of four. This was done mainly to make spellcasters a more viable character option.
  • A lot of changes to how spellcasting works in general.
  • No more equipment lists but instead an abstract Supply item that can be traded for any simple item.
  • The Creative Commons license has been changed from BY-SA to just BY so you have even more freedom when you make something for DURF.
  • And a bunch of other small tweaks and added content so give it a readthrough!

If you are looking for something to play with this new updated DURF, check out Lair of the Gobbler. It's a small starting adventure I put together for use with DURF!

I hope this new and more complete edition of DURF gives you as much joy as it has given me while working on it over the last months! :)

Hey! Just finished browsing Durf 2.0, and I appreciate pretty much all of the changes, and think it's great! I was a little confused about something in the critical hit section - Creatures who are the target of a ranged attack cannot score a critical hit. As I read it, it just means someone who is being aimed at by a ranged attacker cannot crit - am I interpreting that correctly? It seems straightforward enough but I wanted to double-check, hahaha.

I also wanted to check and clarify that a defender could not crit in an exchange, but wasn't sure there either!

Really evocative, love all of the art, and this is an exceptional game that does a lot of stuff right!

Thank you! I'm glad you like it :)

Your interpretation is correct! Since someone who is being aimed at by a ranged attack can't hit if they win the opposed roll, they also cannot score a critical hit.

Perfect, thanks!
