TEA Tuesday: A busy week
Hi folks,
The last week has been interesting. I have worked some more on the draft of the zine and have set up an open table playtest in the CULT OF THE LIZARD KING Discord. The response to my proposal to run a game was met with more enthusiasm than I anticipated, so I had to throw away my original plans and make up an open table game from scratch to facilitate the number of interested people. I ran my first session there yesterday and we had a lot of fun. The players explored the first level of a large eldership in search of artefacts and ran into some fun (slightly creepy) creatures and situations. I will not spoil these here for the other folks from the Discord that might read this.
To make running the game over Discord a little easier I made a digital character sheet in Google Sheets which can be found here.
In regards to what I've worked on this week, I have spent most of my time working on fleshing out the other regions of Orn. Besides the Electrum Sea (seen in the previous post) the first zine will quickly go over the following regions:
- The Mirall Delta - A lush river delta in the hands of House Nalu.
- The Rift - An inkseeker's paradise. A large canyon filled with slowly deteriorating ink tech and elderships. (The setting of the open table Discord game)
- The Ruinlands - The volcanic region containing the ruins of the great city of Maldrazagar at the foot of the slumbering Embermount.
- The Spirit Roads - A region where the veil between the Realm Beyond and Orn is thin and the Twin-Souled Emperor schemes from the city of Nol.
- The Spore Wilds - The vast region of mushroom savanna where the Order of Ilsaar fights to contain an ancient threat.
I'm having a lot of fun filling these pages, but I am noticing some mental strain when having to come up with interesting locations and tables for extended periods of time. At the end of last week, I noticed that the last few table entries and paragraphs I wrote weren't really at the level I wanted them to be. So in the coming weeks, I will dedicate a little more time to breaks and do some recharging. That will hopefully help me refresh the creative part of my brain a bit. This might delay the project by an extra week or two but will make sure the zine will be the quality I want it to be. Which, I think we can all agree on, is a good thing in general :)
I'm especially looking forward to continuing the weekly open table game. Yesterday's session really helped to restore some of the creativity drained away by a few weeks of trying to write almost non-stop.
To conclude this little update I have made an update to the playtest PDF that changes how end-of-session XP gain is handled. You can download the new version of these rules for free right now. We'll be testing this out in the open table game, but as always I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. You can find me in the CULT OF THE LIZARD KING Discord or on Twitter @EmielBoven.
Cheers!
Emiel
